Excess Mortality

  • Excess Winter Mortality (reported as Winter mortality Index) was last published by OHID in February 2024 reporting up to 2021/22.

  • Our previous reports below, use the old methodology for winter mortality (2018/19) published in April 2020.

  • In February 2023 a national consultation took place to re-define how to record excess deaths and the reporting of this.

  • In February 2024 the new way of reporting and methodology was announced here

  • The new way of reporting winter mortality is presented in a power bi report here

  • Given the National changes to the approach to this topic - we are considering how we can or cannot provide and present local data in the future .
